Plants Plants Plants!!!

It's been a little over a year since I moved to an apartment in Seattle.

I have a huge south facing window and since the move, I've been experimenting different kinds of plants.

I got many cutting from my friends & co-workers with successful & failure results but now have more understanding of this mother nature.

Learning that plants need two essential needs, which is light and water, I didn't quite understand the meaning of the low light plants & medium light plants and etc...

There are still many types of plants that I struggle with but it is the process of learning I guess.

I've started out with soil plants mostly but then changed to LECA, then back to soil, and now I am settled with LECA again. I do have few plants that are still in soil and they are mostly succulents.

For the past summer while we had been locked down for the COVID19, I was able to do more planting and they have been thriving under a good care.

I am so worried for the gloomy weather to start in Seattle, so I've been researching for a good grow light.

Here is my beautiful Monstera Deliciosa which was in soil but transitioned into LECA, it been about 3 and a 1/2 months and it's finally looking great and taking off :)

I have one leaf that had turn this yellow color at the beginning when I was transitioning to LECA, so maybe due to lack of nutrients? I honestly don't know :O

It's such a joy to watch them shoot out a new leaf unfurl >.<

Pilea Love

Never saw this type of plant in my life :O
It's so pretty you just keep looking at it!
I am a little worried for the new leaves curling but I will leave it as is.
Hopefully it's a temporary thing :(
Top photo is today, bottom two is when I first got it.
It's in stunt mode now because I re-potted the plant when I first got it.
Hopefully it produce many babies :P

Semi Hydroponic?

I have finally started semi hydroponic for my plants!
Not sure if this will go well, but I like the idea that I don't have to mess with different types of soil.
I still have my soil plants but will limit to what I have so far.
I have done some research to see what types of plants I can have as semi hydroponic but seems like there isn't much types of plants that I like to do so.
I scored this baby Chinese Money Tree from Trader Joe's, so I put it in this cup to see how it goes.
I also converted my spider plant to semi hydroponic, it's been a week so far and it's doing really well!
Let see how it goes :P

Phalaenopsis Orchid In Crisis

I am very new to the phalaenopsis orchids.
This is one that I am desperately trying to give a better life.
Root has rot, so I had to cut most of the roots off and had been sitting in water culture for about a month or little more now.
It still had flower shoot which was pretty healthy, but after doing some research, I have to cut it off in order for me to make the root system stronger.
So I was really sad to cut it off but I did and re-potted in a new growing medium.
As you can see I used hydro-balls for the new pot medium and it's been a day now.
I still want it to be a similar environment like water culture so I chose this method.
It's still looking pretty damp on top and I will check again tomorrow to see if it is.
I am very happy to see the new roots popping out and can't wait to see how it will change. Both big leaves are still helpless and looks very dehydrated but since I cut the flower branch off, hopefully it will make some improvement.
I am not sure if I am doing this right but we will see!

Holiday Cactus???

I have never even knew that there was such a thing???
Thanksgiving Cactus?
Christmas Cactus??
Holiday Cactus???
Well, back in August 21st, co-worker gave me a baby, so I brought it home, but didn't take long to all fall apart!!!
I thought maybe it was in such a big pot so I re-potted it in a smaller pot!
All my other plants were doing fine but just this one!
I was so sad but didn't give up!
And guess what???
This morning I found a little leaf :O
Let see where this takes me, maybe I can get it to flower on next year holidays???

Does This Orchid Have A Chance?

I brought this orchid home from work which was dying and I wasn't sure if it was savable. Most roots have been soggy & dead and the leaves were browning as well, so I just cut it all off. I'm not sure if that was a good call but I did it and no way turning back :O
Anyhow, after few weeks of it being in water cultured, new roots started shooting out and two leaves that are left on there are looking pretty healthy.
It's been couple of months now, I don't know if it will ever flower again, but we will see!

I'M BACK!!!

I finally got my website back!!!
I couldn't renew my website through Google for some reason and some chinese company bought it for few years and has been using it for their brand advertising.
Then when they found that there was no more traffic, I got few emails from them wanting to sell it back to me, but I waited until it was available :)
So good to have my name back again!
Missed my website!
I have been blogging on my photography website but would love to just start one like I had before!
I will think about it for few days and will decide :)
